How to add a stamp to selected PDF pages

Begin by uploading one PDF. After the browser reads the document, it displays a preview of its pages. Select a page with a click. To choose more than one page on a desktop computer, hold Ctrl or Command while selecting additional previews, or drag a selection box around the pages. On a mobile device, tap pages to toggle their selection. The selected state is visible before you process anything.

Next, enter a short stamp label. The first version accepts up to 40 characters after trimming surrounding whitespace. A concise label remains readable at document size, so words such as APPROVED, REVIEWED, DRAFT, PAID, or CONFIDENTIAL are a better fit than a paragraph. Choose one of six positions: top left, top center, top right, bottom left, bottom center, or bottom right.

The action button remains unavailable until at least one page is selected and the label contains text. When you submit, the browser sends the original PDF together with the explicit one-based page numbers, label, and position. The server validates that every selected number exists in the uploaded PDF, then draws one fixed red outlined stamp on each selected page. It does not infer a missing selection and does not silently expand the operation to all pages.

Understanding the six stamp positions

Positions describe the visible edges of each PDF page rather than coordinates copied from one particular page. Top-left and top-right place the rectangle near the corresponding upper corner; top-center centers it along the upper edge. The three bottom choices work the same way along the lower edge. A consistent margin keeps the rectangle inside the page and away from the trim edge.

Each page uses its own width and height. That matters when a document mixes portrait and landscape pages or contains pages with different dimensions. The placement calculation is performed separately for every selected page, so the stamp stays in bounds instead of assuming that all pages match the first preview. Standard right-angle page rotations are also accounted for when mapping a visual edge to the PDF coordinate system.

A stamp is selective

This tool is designed for an event or status that applies to particular pages. You might approve only the signature page, mark selected pages for review, or identify the pages that contain a confidential appendix. Each selected page receives one stamp, and every unselected page is intentionally left alone. That page-specific behavior is the essential difference between this tool and an all-pages watermark.

A watermark is repeated

A watermark normally overlays every page, often with a large rotated or tiled pattern. Add Stamp does none of those things: it has no implicit all-page mode, no repeated tiling, no arbitrary rotation control, and no image upload. If you need a repeated overlay across a complete document, use our watermark tool instead. If you need a legally binding cryptographic signature, use dedicated signing software; this text mark is visual only.

Privacy, supported files, and limitations

Processing is self-hosted by PDF-File.com and uses the uploaded PDF only to create the requested output. Job files are stored temporarily and scheduled for deletion by the application’s normal cleanup process. Do not upload a document unless you have permission to process it, and keep an original copy when the source is important.

The output is a standard PDF with the original pages retained. The fixed red, semi-opaque outlined appearance is deliberately predictable, but it is not customizable in this version. Arbitrary fonts, colors, images, per-page labels, freeform coordinates, repeated watermarks, and cryptographic signatures are outside the scope of Add Stamp. The server also rejects invalid page numbers, unsupported rotations, empty labels, and malformed requests rather than producing a misleading partial file.

For a clean result, choose a page corner with enough whitespace and preview the finished PDF before sharing it. If a stamp covers important content, return to the original file, choose another position, or select a shorter label. Running the operation again from the original avoids stacking multiple marks unintentionally.
