Resize PDF Pages to A4, Letter, Legal and Other Paper Sizes

Resize PDF pages to a standard paper size: every page is scaled to fit A4, Letter, Legal, A3, A5 or Tabloid and centered, keeping its proportions. Landscape pages get landscape paper, and links and form fields move with the content.

How to change the page size of a PDF

A PDF made for A4 paper prints with cut-off edges or odd margins on Letter, and the same goes the other way round. Forms, court filings and print shops often want one exact page size, so the pages have to be changed to fit it.

Resize PDF scales every page onto the paper size you pick and centers it there. It's free and you don't need an account.

How pages are fitted to the new size

Each page is scaled until it fits the new paper, keeping its proportions, and then centered. Nothing gets stretched or cut off. A page with a different shape just gets white margins on two sides.

Portrait pages get portrait paper and landscape pages get landscape paper, so a mixed document stays readable. Pages stored sideways are judged by how your PDF reader shows them.

Text stays text and pictures aren't compressed again, because the page content is scaled, not redrawn. Link areas and form fields move and scale with the content, so they still sit in the right spot.

Paper sizes you can choose

A4 is 210 by 297 mm, A3 is twice that and A5 half, the ISO series used in most countries and set out in ISO 216. Letter is 8.5 by 11 inches, Legal 8.5 by 14 and Tabloid 11 by 17, the sizes used in the United States and Canada.

Going from A4 to Letter or back barely changes the page, since the two sizes are close. A4 to A5 shrinks text to about 70 percent, which most documents survive just fine.

Why a resized page gets white margins

Paper sizes come in different shapes. An A4 page is about 1.41 times as tall as it is wide and a Letter page about 1.29 times, so an A4 page scaled onto Letter fills the height but leaves a strip on both sides.

Nothing is cut off to fill those strips, because cutting would lose content near the edges. If the original page has wide margins, trim them first with Crop PDF and resize afterwards.

Do form fields still work after resizing?

Yes. Fields stay fillable form fields, because the tool moves and scales each field box with the page and doesn't flatten it. In October 2026 we resized a Letter form with six fields (two text boxes, a checkbox, a dropdown, a radio pair and a list) to A4.

All six came back under the same names, with every box scaled to 97.3 percent. A name typed into the resized form showed up inside its box, at the 18 point size the form sets for that field.

Shrinking oversized pages for an upload portal

When a portal rejects a page for being too big, Resize PDF shrinks it to the size you pick without cutting anything off. We tried it on a two page file with a 17 by 22 inch drawing sheet and an A4 page, resized to Letter. Both pages came out at 612 by 792 points.

The drawing sheet was scaled to exactly half, so its 18 point notes became 9 point notes, and the notes in its top left and bottom right corners stayed on the page. The A4 page was scaled to 94 percent and centered. After a shrink like that, check that the small print on a big sheet is still readable.

Page size and file size are different things

Resizing changes the paper a page is printed on. It doesn't change how many megabytes the file has, so to make the file smaller for email or an upload limit, use Compress PDF instead.

If you want to cut margins away rather than scale the page, use Crop PDF. To fit several pages onto one sheet, there's Pages per Sheet.

What happened when we tested Resize PDF

We uploaded sample-screenshots.pdf, a 12-page test file of 3.1 MB, and chose Letter paper. The tool returned sample-screenshots_Resized.pdf, 3.1 MB with 12 pages, 0.2 seconds after we pressed the button on our local test server.

Tested in October 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions about Resizing a PDF

How do I change a PDF from A4 to Letter?

Upload it, pick Letter as the paper size and click Resize PDF. Every page gets scaled onto Letter paper and centered.

Does resizing a PDF reduce the quality?

No. The page content is scaled, not turned into an image, so text and drawings stay sharp.

Can I resize only some pages?

It resizes every page. Pull out the pages you need first with Extract PDF Pages, resize them and merge them back.

Is my file kept?

No. We delete the upload and the result from our server within two hours.
