How to convert JPG to PDF with your own page settings

What does a JPG to PDF converter do?

JPG (or JPEG) is the usual format for photos, because JPEG is a lossy compression method that keeps files small. A PDF (Portable Document Format) file can hold many such images as pages, keeps them in a fixed order and opens the same way on any device.

A JPG to PDF converter places each photo on a PDF page. That is the format forms, job portals and offices usually ask for when they want one file instead of loose images.

How to convert JPG to PDF online

  1. Click “Choose Files” or drag your JPG images into the upload area.
  2. Drag the previews into the order you want, and use Rotate Right on any image that is sideways.
  3. Choose the page size, orientation and margin.
  4. Leave “Merge all images in one PDF file” ticked for one PDF, or untick it for one PDF per image.
  5. Click “Convert To PDF” and download the result.

Page size, orientation and margin settings

Page size

A4 and Letter put each photo on a standard paper page, scaled to fit without stretching or cropping. Fit to Content makes each page as large as the image itself (one point per pixel, plus any margin), which suits on-screen viewing.

Orientation

For A4 and Letter pages, Automatic picks landscape for wide images and portrait for tall ones, page by page. Portrait or Landscape forces one orientation for every page.

Margin

No Margin, Small Margin and Big Margin leave 0, 20 or 40 points (about 7 or 14 mm for the last two) of white space around the image. Our guide to JPG to PDF page size, margins and orientation shows when each setting helps.

Can I combine several JPG files into one PDF?

Yes. Upload all the photos, drag them into order and keep the merge box ticked, and you get one PDF with one page per image. Untick it and you get a separate PDF for each image, downloaded together as a ZIP file.

Turns made with Rotate Right are applied both to the merged PDF and to the separate PDFs.

Does converting JPG to PDF reduce image quality?

Usually not. An upright JPG is placed in the PDF with its original bytes, so it is not compressed a second time and keeps its pixel size.

A photo whose Exif data says it should be rotated, as many phone photos do, is turned upright first and saved again at JPEG quality 92. That second save is lossy but rarely visible; our guide on converting JPG to PDF without losing quality explains how to check.

The converter has no compression setting. If the finished PDF is too large to email, shrink it afterwards with our Compress PDF tool.

Converting JPG to PDF on a phone

Can a JPG become a searchable PDF?

Not with this tool alone. It places the photo as an image, so any text in the picture cannot be searched or copied until it goes through OCR (optical character recognition); our guide on converting JPG to a searchable PDF shows the extra step.

Privacy and file limits

Each JPG can be up to 25 MB. The images are converted on PDF-File.com's own server, one at a time, and each upload is deleted as soon as its PDF page has been sent back to your browser.

Merging the pages into one file and applying any rotation happen in your browser. Nothing is sent to an outside conversion service.

What happened when we tested JPG to PDF

We uploaded our small test photo test.jpg (35.6 KB) twice and kept every default: page size A4, orientation Automatic, No Margin and “Merge all images in one PDF file” ticked. The download was one PDF of 72.6 KB with 2 pages, about the size of the two photos together, ready 0.1 seconds after we clicked on our local test server.

Is it safe to convert JPG to PDF online?

Files travel over HTTPS, are converted on our own server and are deleted as soon as each PDF page is sent back. No account is needed.
