PNG to PDF conversion: quality, layout and our test
Screenshots, diagrams and scanned pages often arrive as PNG files, while forms, clients and printers ask for a PDF. This converter places each PNG on its own PDF page and lets you set the order, page size and margin first.
It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. Each image can be up to 25 MB.

Does PNG to PDF conversion keep image quality?
Yes. PNG is a lossless image format, and the converter keeps it lossless: the pixels go into the PDF with lossless compression, so text in screenshots stays sharp.
Transparent areas stay transparent, so the white page shows through them. A rare 16-bit PNG with transparency is stored with 8 bits per color channel; ordinary 8-bit PNGs, which includes almost every screenshot, keep every pixel.
Our guide on PNG to PDF without losing quality shows how to check the result, and our Compress PDF tool can shrink the PDF afterwards if it is too large to send.
How do I convert multiple PNG images to a single PDF file?
Upload all the PNGs, drag them into order and keep the merge box ticked. You get one PDF with one page per image.
Untick the box to get a separate PDF for each image, downloaded together as a ZIP file. Turns made with Rotate Right are applied to the merged PDF and to the separate PDFs alike.
Our guide on combining several PNG screenshots into one PDF covers naming and ordering a long series.
Page size, orientation and margin settings
A4 and Letter put each image on a standard paper page, scaled to fit without stretching or cropping. Fit to Content makes each page as large as the image (one point per pixel, plus any margin), which suits screenshots read on screen.
For A4 and Letter, Automatic picks landscape for wide images and portrait for tall ones, while Portrait and Landscape force one orientation. No Margin, Small Margin and Big Margin leave 0, 20 or 40 points of white space; our guide to PNG to PDF page size, margins and orientation explains which to pick for printing.
Can a PNG become a searchable PDF?
Not in this step. The converter places the PNG as an image, so its text cannot be searched until the PDF has been through OCR; our guide on converting PNG to a searchable PDF shows the extra step.
Converting PNG to PDF on a phone
The tool works in a mobile browser, so you can pick screenshots from your gallery or files without installing an app. Photos saved as JPG go through our JPG to PDF converter, and TIFF scans through TIFF to PDF.
Privacy and file limits
Each PNG can be up to 25 MB. The images are converted on PDF-File.com's own server, one at a time, and each upload is deleted as soon as its PDF page has been sent back to your browser.
Merging the pages into one file happens in your browser. Nothing is sent to an outside conversion service.
What happened when we tested PNG to PDF
We uploaded our small test image test.png (15.8 KB) twice and kept every default: page size A4, orientation Automatic, No Margin and “Merge all images in one PDF file” ticked. The download was one PDF of 41.8 KB with 2 pages, ready 0.2 seconds after we clicked on our local test server.
Tested in October 2026.
