PDF to JPG: Resolution, Options and a Real Test
PDF to JPG conversion turns each page of a PDF into an image you can post, embed in a slide or send to someone without a PDF reader. This converter renders every page, or only the pages you pick, at 300 DPI with the highest JPEG quality setting. You download all images together in one ZIP file.

What resolution and quality the JPG files have
Each page is rendered by Ghostscript at 300 DPI, with smoothing for text and line art. At that resolution an A4 page becomes an image of about 2480 by 3508 pixels, large enough to print or to zoom into small text.
The images are saved at JPEG quality 100, the top of the 0 to 100 scale of Ghostscript's JPEG device. There are no resolution or quality settings to change.
JPEG is a lossy compression method, so even at the highest quality fine edges around text can show faint artifacts. If text looks soft, our guide to fixing blurry text in PDF to JPG shows how to check text clarity and what to do when it looks soft.
All pages or selected pages
Convert All Pages starts as soon as you click Next and turns every page into its own JPG. Convert Selected Pages shows a preview of each page so you can click only the ones you need; our guide to converting specific PDF pages to JPG shows how.
The ZIP file holds one image per page, named Page-1.jpg, Page-2.jpg and so on. Our guide to the PDF to JPG ZIP download explains how to get the JPG files out of the ZIP.
What happened when we tested PDF to JPG
We converted sample-screenshots.pdf (3.1 MB, 12 pages), a PDF we made from 12 screenshots of our own tools, with Convert all pages (the default). The download, sample-screenshots_PDFToJPG.zip, was 2.3 MB. Tested in October 2026.

JPG, PNG or extracting the images inside
JPG files are smaller and suit photos, social media and email. For screenshots, diagrams or anything with sharp text, PDF to PNG gives lossless images.
PDF to JPG takes a picture of the whole page. To get the original photos that are embedded in a PDF instead, use Extract Images from PDF. To go the other way and make a PDF from photos, use JPG to PDF.
When a PDF will not convert
A PDF that needs a password to open cannot be converted. PDFs that only restrict printing or copying convert normally, as our guide on converting a password-protected PDF to JPG explains.
If you are allowed to open the file, remove the password with Unlock PDF and convert again. Files larger than 25 MB are refused before upload.
The converter works in mobile browsers too. Our guide to converting PDF to JPG on an iPhone covers selecting pages and saving the images on the phone.
Limits and privacy
You can convert one PDF of up to 25 MB per run, with no account and no watermark. The PDF and the images are processed on our server and deleted automatically within two hours.
Frequently Asked Questions about converting PDF to JPG
Is this PDF to JPG converter free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and adds no watermark. Each PDF can be up to 25 MB.
What resolution are the JPG images?
Every page is rendered at 300 DPI and saved at the highest JPEG quality. These settings are fixed.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Choose Convert Selected Pages, click the pages you want and start the conversion.
Why do I get a ZIP file instead of single images?
The images always come in one ZIP file, one JPG per page, so a long PDF downloads in one step.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Only if it opens without a password. Unlock a PDF that needs an open password first, then convert it.
What is the difference between JPG and PNG?
JPG files are smaller but lossy. PNG keeps every pixel exactly and suits text and graphics better.
